WEX Health Unveils Chatbot as a Winner in Inaugural Innovation Challenge

Leading Healthcare Benefits Administration Technology Provider Eyes Artificial Intelligence as Key to Simplifying the Consumer Experience While Reducing Support Costs

FARGO, N.D.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 15, 2018-- WEX Health, an award-winning healthcare benefits technology provider, today announced that it has selected the WEX Health Bot as the winning innovation to emerge from the inaugural WEX Health Innovation Challenge (WHIC). The chatbot uses artificial intelligence (AI) designed to comprehend health benefit account plan-holders’ questions to help accomplish their most commonly requested tasks.

Through the WHIC, WEX Health invited its employees—both as teams and individuals—to submit their product innovation ideas. The challenge provided an opportunity for team members to voluntarily collaborate, enhance their skills, gain recognition, meet new team members, and win prizes. The top ideas were presented to a panel of WEX Health advisers and judges, as well as to attendees of WEX Health Partner Conference 2018, held last week. WEX Bot was selected as the winning innovation by both WEX Health judges and partners.

The WEX Bot prototype was built using the Microsoft Bot Framework with the goal of addressing the reasons for the most frequent inbound calls and emails received by the WEX Health partner network and the 300,000 employers and more than 25 million consumers who use the WEX Health platform to better manage their healthcare expenses. WEX Bot will quickly handle consumer inquiries about things like plan rules, claims, debit cards and account balances through a convenient self-service model rather than by phone or email where wait times often come into play.
